Liposuction
Liposuction (liposculpture) is a body contouring procedure that removes and remodels fat, helps you to look slimmer, and improves your body’s proportions. Many people have stubborn pockets of fat that diet and exercise cannot eliminate. Liposuction is ideally suited to removing these fatty deposits. While it is not a substitute for a healthy diet and exercise, it is a way to complement those things to help you look your best.
Liposuction involves the use of a small instrument called a cannula to remove the fatty deposits. Dr. Verga likes to use very thin cannulae to control the amount of fat removed and avoid complications such as irregularities, bleeding and bruising.
Many areas of the body can be treated using liposuction, including your thighs, arms, neck, hips, waist, and back. It can also be performed with other procedures such as tummy tuck, neck lift and facelift. Generally the best candidates have stubborn fat deposits and skin that retains some elasticity. If you have a lot of excess skin or lax abdominal muscles, a tummy tuck may be a better option for you.
Most liposuction patients can resume normal activities almost immediately, though it may take several days or weeks for you to return to your full lifestyle. Work typically can be considered a few days after your treatment, but depending on how large the treated area is, you may have to take more time off to recover properly. The final results may be visible anywhere from 1-6 months after the procedure, and will continue to improve with time as swelling goes down.
