Dermal Fillers
One non-surgical method that has become extremely popular with patients is the injection of dermal fillers. Dermal fillers you may have heard of include hyaluronic acid fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm as well as collagen, Artefill, Radiesse, and Sculptra. These should not be confused with muscle relaxers like BOTOX and Dysport. BOTOX and Dysport may be used for anti-aging skin care but work through a completely different process.
In certain circumstances, or when higher volume of filler is required, Dr. Verga will use your own fat. This is harvested using fine canulas or needles, prepared and reinjected.
Your skin is made of two layers, an outer layer called the epidermis and an inner layer called the dermis. The area between these two layers contains a jelly-like substance called hyaluronic acid. When you are young, your skin contains plenty of hyaluronic acid. As you age, however, the hyaluronic acid between the layers of your skin diminishes. This decrease causes your skin to lose its natural volume and fullness and allows for the creation of wrinkles or folds. Dermal fillers replace your natural hyaluronic acid, restoring volume and firmness to your skin, making you look younger and eliminating wrinkles.
During the procedure, Dr. Verga will make injections under your skin in tiny amounts using a very fine needle. Typically patients find the procedure is easy and relatively painless, though you may be mildly uncomfortable for few minutes depending on the extent of your treatment. Usually you can see results immediately after the procedure; however, your final result may take a few days to fully appear.
